I renamed "The Old Place" - "My Favorite Place"
Saturday evening we decided it was time for a date night and we wanted to try "The Old Place" ever since fellow foodie Adam raved about the place. Without a reservation, the day before mothers day, we had a 40 minute wait and we almost left, but decided to go next door into the wine bar and order a bottle of wine. And that's where the fun began. The wine bar is super comfortable and beautifully decorated with a fantastic selection of local-only wine and extremely friendly & knowledgable staff. Live music playing Bob Dylan songs made this the perfect kick-off to the evening.
Moving over to the restaurant, we were placed at the beautiful solid wood bar, which stretches the full length of this little gem of an eatery. We were greeted by one of the owners, Tim who loves good and unusual beers just as much as I do. His selection, or should I call it collection is as unusual as it is fantastic.
The menu is fitting to this small place, and just as wonderful. We decided for the Halibut with creamy leak filled Portobello mushroom and rice, and Rib Eye steak with the biggest baked potato, fully decked out, I've ever seen. All food is cooked over one of the most expensive, taste infusing fuels available - red wood charcoal. Everything was cooked & seasoned to perfection.
Our awesome bar-neighbors Elisabeth & Charlie were nice enough to offer a taste of their apple crisp desert, which was truly heavenly. This nice couple came originally from Virginia and knows good clams when they see them and they said that the "Old Place" Steamed Clams were some of the best they had.
The evening was made perfect by the musicians that played guitar, bongos, harmonica and sang all evening long, making it an even more fun and enjoyable to be at this beautiful place.
If you want to show off your latest designer dress, diamonds and expect beautiful china, you are in the wrong place. The Old Place is a down to earth, one of a kind gem with friendly, hard working people, fantastic food and drink in an atmosphere that attracts foodies and movie stars alike, simply wanting to kick back and enjoy.
Bottom-line: This is officially my most favorite place, home away from home, most fun date night place - 5 out of 5 stars - period!
